Types Of Psoriasis

             Psoriasis is one of the most common skin diseases; it is one of the chronic dry skin diseases. It is basically a skin disorder that mainly affects the joints and the skin, causing red colored scaly patches becoming apparent on the skin. Psoriasis is chronic disorder condition that varies in its severity from small-localized rough patches to entire body coverage.

             There are a number of factors to which the development of this chronic disease can be attributed such as regular smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol and increased levels of stress, just to name a few.

              There is a multiplicity of the symptoms of psoriasis, which manifest in different forms such as pustular, plaque, flexural and guttatte psoriasis.

             Some of the types can be described as:

Plaque psoriasis

             This is one of the most common types of psoriasis, affecting a lrge mass of people with psoriasis. In general, plaque psoriasis becomes apparent in the form of swelled parts of inflamed skin enclosed with scaly skin in a silvery white color. These areas on the skin having white scaly patches are known as plaques.

Flexural psoriasis

             This is also known as inverse psoriasis; it appears in the form of smooth and flat patches on the skin. It develops inside the skin folds; specifically in areas surrounding the genitals, near the thighs and groin, underneath the breasts (inflammatory fold), the armpits, underneath a plump stomach (pannus). In most cases, it is provoked by excessive sweat and friction; being open to fungal infection. 

Nail psoriasis

             This type of psoriasis badly affects the nails and the area in and around the nails, causing an array of changes in the outer shell of toe and fingernails. These changes include pitting about the nails, discoloration underneath the plate of the nails, lines drawn all over the nails, thickened skin beneath the nails, degeneration and loosening of the finger and toenails.  

             All the above types of psoriasis can be cured effectively if the skin is taken care of regularly and there are various treatments available to cure the chronic skin disease.
