It is the most exposed part of the body and is thus highly susceptible to disease and disorder. Skin diseases are caused due to internal anomalies and are treated by specialists called the dermatologists. Dermatology is the science of treating skin diseases.

Some of the most common skin disorders found in patients can be stated as follows:

Acne manifests itself in the form of pimples or eruptions on the skin that are caused due to the hair follicles getting blocked. The skin cannot breathe causing such scars and marks on the skin and especially on the face. People with acne need to be very hygienic.

Eczema: The second most common skin disease is eczema. This takes the form of rashes on the skin that cause itchiness and irritation. People with eczema should not have hot water baths, must avoid friction with the affected part of the skin.

Vitiligo: It causes the skin to depigment causing white coloured patches and spots without any scaling. Vitiligo is caused due to malfunction of the cells (melanocytes) that give colour to the skin. This defect could be genetic.

Scabies: is caused by mites. There is occurrence of blisters on parts like wrists, back of the elbows, knees, groin etc. It causes intense itching that worsens with passage of time. Remedies like cleaning the bedding material with hot water would help protect from mites.

Skin Discolouration: takes three forms..vitiligo, post-inflammatory hypo pigmentation and albinism. Other than these 3 types there is another skin disorder called Pityriasis that causes depigmentation of skin.
